I almost forgot how nice it is to roam around Whidbey Island’s iconic Deception Pass State Park on a sunny day in January. A couple of us scampered about six miles today from Cranberry Lake to North Beach, then under the big bridge, over to Cornet Bay and up to Goose Rock. Only a few people had a similar urge this fine day, meaning the place was about as deserted as ever—totally unlike the smiling chaos of the summer throng.
A few pics below offer some highlights. Notice the picnic bench snuggled up to some drift logs on North Beach, as if to say, Hey, I was tree once too!
The hike was a good follow-up to a recent jaunt with Kris and her pop to Lighthouse Point and Rosario Head on the Fidalgo Island side of Deception Pass Bridge. For those pics, however, you’ll have to wait for my latest article in the Spring 2025 issue of Adventures Northwest, due out in a few weeks. (In case those two sites don’t make the cut, I’ll post them here.)
